Survey project:
We have been working together in class to develop a survey that is interesting and appropriate. You have collected your data from two samples thus far, your math class and 100 total students.
Using this data, you need to develop two graphs.
- One graph needs to be true to the data
- the other one needs to be misldeading to the reader.
Using the link below to the website "Create a Graph" input your data and create both graphs for your project. You may print off your graph if your final project is a paper version or you may embed the file into your power point or SMARTboard presentation if you are turning in an electronic version.
Please post any comments or questions you have about the project or using the website below and I will respond to guide you. Scroll through your classmates comments and questions as you are working because their ideas might be helpful to you as you are navigating through this project.
Wow, it sounds like you already have a handle on blogging. Love your idea and thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like students will be applying information from a variety of sources and information. Will there be a way for students to link or publish their graphs to the blog? Those graphs could be powerful anchor examples for future classes. I appreciate that you give students options as to what their final project will look like. Maybe you could do an example graph by asking readers to respond to a question on your blog and then using that data to create a graph.
ReplyDeleteI need to look into the ability to post the graphs on here that they make. I am not sure how to do that for sure. I do like the idea of sharing a completed graph and allowing the students to ask questions and make comments. Thank you for the pointers.
ReplyDeleteJamie, I'm impressed! It's a great idea to use a blog to conduct a survey. It could turn out to have more authentic information as those being surveyed might be more truthful than if they were face-to-face with the surveyor. Can the graphs be added from a word program? I haven't tried to do that yet.
ReplyDeleteLike the idea on how you have converted your blog post into an online project. In line with ‘going green’ and ‘paperless’ in most schools, I can foresee your idea in becoming a common practice in blogs. At the end of this project, do you also intend to assess student’s work totally via digital means? I am thinking of perhaps a rubric would probably fit in here.
